The
Tidewater School was started in 1986 in direct response to the
need in Calvert County for a developmentally appropriate and educationally
respectful environment for young children. Nancy Libertini developed
the model program for Tidewater based upon her knowledge and experience
as a speech-language pathologist and early childhood educator.
The model continues today as a dynamic model, changing as the
research in neuropsychological and learning theory literally explodes.
As
the school matured, families longed to see their children stay
in such a nurturing, affirming and stimulating environment. Through
the dedication of a volunteer Board of Directors, The Tidewater
School expanded its curriculum in 1995 to include elementary.
In
2006, The Tidewater School celebrated the opening of a second
school, The Tidewater School By the Sea, on the Eastern Shore
of Maryland.
