Randi has devoted her entire life to care giving, first to her siblings for many years and then as a nurse, mother, grandmother and now as a care giver for her mother. She grew up in New England where she attended school and graduated from College with a B.S. degree in Nursing. After moving to Maryland to practice, she worked at Prince George’s General Hospital in ICU and CCU. Then she went on to Graduate school where she majored in Child Psychiatric Nursing. After accomplishing a Master of Science in Nursing, she worked at University Hospital in Baltimore on the Residential Treatment Unit for Emotionally Handicapped Children. In 1973, Randi moved with her husband to Calvert County to begin a family and support her husband’s medical practice as a surgeon and general practitioner. Two of her children attended Tidewater School when its doors opened and she has been devoted to its philosophy ever since. She has been proud to be a part of its growth and development through its 25 years in Calvert County and instrumental in its many phases of change.
Laura Amin
Laura Amin is the staff representative on Tidewater’s Board of Directors and Interim Head of School. She is a native of western Pennsylvania where she was fortunate to grow up in an idyllic small town in the Allegheny mountains. That experience left her with a passion for nature and outdoor activities which she likes to share with her Pre-K students at Tidewater. Prior to receiving her Montessori training at the primary level, Laura attended the University of Pittsburgh where she received dual degrees in Chinese and history. She attended the University of Durham in England on a Rotary International scholarship and received a Master’s degree in East Asian Studies. She worked at the Brookings Institution and American University before joining Tidewater in 2001. Both her son and daughter have attended Tidewater since Pre-K and she is a true believer in the lifelong benefits of alternative education.
