Tidewater Traditions

Parent Club

Once each month, parents are invited to attend a stimulating and affirming discussion focused around a selected book, topic of interest, or just a delightful day! The meetings are held at the homes of parents who volunteer to provide a "cozy" spot for reflection. The value of these meetings is found in the awareness that no one is alone on this journey of parenting. What we often think is only so peculiar to our own family is so prevalent in others!  Such awareness allows comfort and release!

Thanksgiving Feast:  November 24, 2009, 10 a.m.

Parents, Sibling, Grandparents - Come one and all to this annual celebration of blessings. The children offer special music, poetry and reflections upon our many blessings, followed by a feast.

Parent Child Evenings:

March 24, 2010 for PK and K, 6 - 7:30 pm

March 25, 2010 for Elem, 6 - 7:30 pm

Parents are invited to attend a special evening with their students. It is at this time that the child guides the parents through the work of the classroom, sharing favorite lessons and providing insight into the world of the student. It is such an important occasion for esteeming the child's work, which is too often minimized by the distractions of life. Siblings are not permitted to attend this event as it is an intimate time for student and parents.

Family Day:  May 7, 2010

Held in May of each year, the Tidewater families gather to spend a school day together. Our event is social and purposeful. Since 2006, Family Day activities begin with a Bike-a-Thon to support research for childhood cancers through St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Our theme for each year develops as our year progresses. Parents are needed to make this day extremely wonderful for all of the children!

Spring Musical:  May 2010

Each year, the elementary children practice songs, dance and memorization for the end of the year spring musical. The quality of the performance is outstanding and parents along with the younger Tidewater children enjoy the work of the older students. What is most impressive is the level of confidence in our presenters.  This is an event that has become one of the year's most anticipated events for all of the students.

Graduation:  May 2010

At this event, we pause together as a collective student, staff and parent body to recognize the passage from elementary to middle school. This celebration also recognizes the efforts of all of the students for their work in reaching out as ambassadors to make life better for children around the world.
