Your child is the most important person between us so please keep us informed.

Communications between parent and teacher can occur through notes, phone calls or conferences.

Children are experiencing many changes: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. They can be so affectionate one moment and irrational the next. The roller coaster of emotions can create feelings of inadequacy in parenting along with great guilt and concern. Please feel that you can discuss these "growing pains" with the staff. We welcome your insights and hope to relieve the stress in the child as we examine together the cause of the behavior.

The school phone is answered daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. If you should receive the answering machine, please leave a message and your call will be returned. If you call during school hours and reach our Administrative Assistant, you may be requested to leave a message and a time that is convenient for a return call.

Conferences

Scheduled conferences are encouraged at a minimum of two per year.  During these meetings, our specific objective is to examine the history and performance of the child with insights offered by the teacher and the parent.  On occasion, the director or other professionals may join in this conference.  Conferences can also occur over the telephone in the event that a mutual time cannot be established or a need is immediate.  It is not unusual for Tidewater's teachers to make an evening available for phone or school conferences.

Our staff's commitment to the child's well being is of utmost importance and this involves respecting the needs of parents to discuss the child.  The School requests the two yearly conferences and may request other times for meetings.  Parents are encouraged to request conferences when there is a concern.   When a concern develops, please contact your child's teacher first. They have the most direct knowledge of your child and often are the best person to answer the question.  If the teacher is unable to resolve the concern, please bring your concern to the attention of the Director.
