The
Tidewater School provides a supportive team approach for the education
of children. Parents and Staff must work together in this
effort. Seminars are presented by our Staff to assist parents
in their understanding of the philosophy of learning and the development
of the cognitive and social emotional growth of the child.
It is imperative that parents attend the seminars in order to
fully understand the instruction and learning process, the progression
and presentation of the curriculum and the role of the environment
and materials. A unified approach enables the child to have consistency
and support from the adults who guide their learning, both at
home and at school.
Parent
Seminars
are offered throughout the year for parent support, enrichment
and training. Come and understand the mind and heart of
your child through The Tidewater School's excellent seminars!

will be provided with various materials to read prior to this
seminar which is designed to examine and challenge our beliefs
about the value of standardized tests and enlighten our view regarding
observations and individualized assessment procedures. The
Tidewater School offers a comprehensive examination of each child
with respect for individual strengths and weaknesses without need
of labeling or grouping. This seminar will provide insights
for why this model works and why children deserve far greater
respect than the limitations of test scores.

Training for Effective Parenting
6:30
- 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 29, 2009
Seminar
Sessions to be held every Thursday evening through February 26,

The
STEP program will provide parents with an opportunity to explore
the myths of parenting as they self-reflect on their own belief
systems about the ways we discipline children and why children
behave as they do. The model presented is an Adlerian model,
one that is the same used for Tidewater's discipline approach
with children. The sessions last approximately 1.5 hours
and child care is available for a nominal fee. The only
other fee for the course is the cost of textbooks, usually around
$25.00.
