Parents
are encouraged to schedule visits to the classroom. Your time
within the classroom takes
place
in several ways:
- Scheduled
visits with a time set up between you and the teacher.
- Visits
during the special parties and celebrations during the year.
- An
evening visit during a Parent and Child night in the Classroom.
- As
a volunteer to help with special activities.
As
a courtesy, we request that observations be planned in advance.
This is based on a sound rationale and is not due to "privacy"
in the classroom. Children can be easily distracted and
are naturally curious. We like to prepare them to let them
know that someone will be visiting.
There
are times during the year when we have numerous requests for visitors
(other schools, new parents, etc.). We do not want to have too
many visitors with the children at any one time. It becomes distracting.
Most importantly, we want to make certain that we can greet you
and extend to you the welcome that you deserve.
When
you schedule your observation of a classroom, you will be presented
with a sheet that will assist you in making your visit meaningful.
You will be guided to a place for your observation to take place.
Occasionally a child might approach you and engage in conversation.
We ask that you respond naturally to the child and encourage them
to proceed with their work. Please explain to the child that you
are with them to enjoy observing their work.
As
you observe, your sheet will guide you in understanding the multi-aged
class, the problem solving techniques, the independent and the
community workers, and the orderly prepared environment.
You will observe the learning styles of the individual children
and witness the social emotional support that develops in a environment
of respect and internal motivation.
If you ever feel uncomfortable about anything regarding your child's
well-being and safety while at the school, you should approach
us and come forth without hesitation and fear for you are important
and your trust is of utmost importance to us.
